Business arising from previous meeting:Walkathon organising committee has decided to defer the event until next term due to proximity of other events on the date originally decided. Discussion of new date held over to general business. Jenni announced that a suggestion box will be put at the canteen. Language classes: have investigated this but there don’t seem to be avenues open to us where the department will fund the development of a new class. I am at this stage investigating the possibility of joining with another school to see if we can apply for funding to have Korean classes. Alicia Trenear has also suggested that: - parents may be willing to pay for a language teacher - P and C may pay or part pay for language teacher with parents paying the other part payment A circular would be issued to the parent body to test opinions on this and about what language would be taught etc. Jenni warmly thanked everyone who put in great efforts at the Election BBQ, the Mothers’ Day stall and the Easter Hat Parade.
President’s Report:The Cookbook Committee held a meeting recently at Gretha’s place. They will put forward a competition to select a name for the book with a prize for the winning student. Recipe deadline is 10th June. Size of book will be 210 x 250mm with hardback cover 180pp. $2,200 worth of ads have been sold so far. The Committee is asking for 3 recipes from each family, with (if possible) a story behind each dish. Volunteers for sales and distribution are required. The sale price would be $30 per book. A basket of flowers was sent to Kerry Delaney: ex-pupil, ex-Meadowbank parent, current Meadowbank grandparent and long-time supporter of our school. This goes with our best wishes to Kerry for her speedy recovery from illness.
Principal’s Report: • Diane Erickson has taken leave leading to her retirement later this year: Di has worked at Meadowbank for more than 20 years. Mrs Sironen has taken on Mrs Erickson’s Senior Administration Mangers role and Mrs Wheelhouse is relieving in the Senior Administration Officer’s role We plan to have a farewell assembly where students can say their farewell. Later in the year we will have a more formal farewell for adults: teachers, ex teachers and parents. I hope that we will have the support of the P and C and other parent members. • Solar panels have been installed and are working. Mrs Bahia and I have had a lesson in how to interpret the data that we can access. All classes and students will be able to view this. We use all of the power that the hall generates. We are already benefitting from savings in this area. • Kindergarten 2012 - We will be participating in a Kindergarten expo on Thursday evening at the West Ryde Library. - We have a Kindergarten Information Evening 7 – 8.30pm on 31 May and - Morning Information Session: Wednesday 8 June 9.30 – 10.30am. - Could some P and Representatives be present at these? – Thank you to Gretha and Sharne for volunteering to represent the P and C at these meetings. • Education Week - Multicultural theme: Jessica Buchanan and Laura Grassi will be coordinating. They wish to meet with all class parents to gain assistance from our parent community for a multicultural luncheon. • Correction to newsletter: Athletics Carnival will be held at Dunbar Park • Hall: - Hiring out two evenings a week. - Most items now fixed. Theone year defects liability period has begun. This date coincides with when Lend Lease handed the keys over. When we become aware of defect related to the BER works we submit in writing to our Assets Management Unit who will organise for the defect will be closed out accordingly. As long as the defect is raised within the one year defects liability period it will be addressed and closed out by the MU/Managing Contractor. • Ethics Classes have commenced this term for students who were already attending 5/6 non scripture. This class is at capacity and proceeding well.
Motion:That the Treasurer’s report be accepted: Moved, Geoff Hudson 2nd Liz Muir.
Vice President’s report: Geoff Hudson: Reported a fundraising offer by Aussie Farmers Direct for the school to disseminate advertising circulars. AFD will donate 2% of fruit and veg orders to the school. Each class’s Class Parent should have a slot in this meeting for a report. There has been a request for a hopscotch marking to be put down in the play area. Jenni will look into the feasibility of this.
General Business: A question was asked about whether the school should cover the sandpit like the pre-school does. Jenni said that the pre-school had to cover their sandpit by regulation, however the school was not required to. In reply to a question about the school canteen, Ian Whelan said that our Convenor was a self-employed contractor. It was discussed that a possible change of the Law may affect our employment arrangements. A suggestion was made about afterschool activities in the school hall, such as drama. Jenni replied that we already have music lessons but would look into other options. The new date for the upcoming school walkathon was discussed – tentative dates of 18th or 25th August were decided for the moment. Mothers’ Day Stall: it was suggested that procedures for organising this be written down for the next time.
